My Experience Working as an Intern at Kouvolan Lakritsi

I didn’t know what to expect when I started my internship at Kouvolan Lakritsi Oy. I was nervous and excited about my first job in Finland. In comparison to Sri Lanka would the work culture be different? Will I be able to fit in? As my two months internship came to end last year I can certainly say it was a great experience full of learning, growth and amazing people.

Introduction to Kouvolan Lakritsi

Kouvolan Lakritsi is a well known Finnish licorice company with a reputation for producing high quality products. I can clearly see why the company has won the title of Best Licorice Manufacturer in the world for several years running  and it’s not just about the licorice it’s also about the people who make it.

My First Job In Finland

I always wondered what it would be like to work in Finland before I started. From the start I was welcomed into a friendly and professional environment in which everyone was very supportive to me. The Kouvolan Lakritsi team made sure I felt involved and encouraged me to take on new challenges. It provided an environment in which I could actually learn and grow.

My Work and Learning Experience

During my tenure at Kouvolan Lakritsi Oy I was able to work on a number of projects allowing me to learn about different areas of the business. Financial statements, market research for a new product, developing new product descriptions for global consumers, developing a kid friendly scavenger hunt game, planning a hackathon assignment and production work were some of the major tasks I worked on.
I would say each of these duties presented unique challenges for me and I am grateful for the opportunity to learn, grow and contribute to a firm that values both quality and innovation.

A Heartfelt Thank You

I am incredibly thankful to Santeri Nisula and Virve Ekroth for their support and mentorship throughout my internship. Their guidance helped me develop practical experience and confidence in work environment. It was always a pleasure working with such gifted individuals.

A Bittersweet Goodbye

Even though I had a great time at Kouvolan Lakritsi two months didn’t seem long enough. I would have enjoyed the opportunity to work there for a longer period of time. This internship was genuinely unforgettable because of the experience the people and the overall atmosphere.
I hope Kouvolan Lakritsi Oy continues to have success! I can’t wait to see what incredible achievements you will eventually introduce to the market. I’m grateful that you helped make my first employment in Finland.
