A Summer Trip to Porvoo
Vol 28 Issue 02 19th September 2025

This summer I drove about 65 minutes from Kouvola to Porvoo. Have you ever been there? It is a small town, very peaceful in the morning and evening, and so beautiful.
Porvoo made me think of Suzhou in China, because of the riverside houses. But here the houses are wooden and painted in bright Swedish-style colors. Do you also like this kind of view by the water?
The town has a big cathedral with a tall sharp roof. The old streets are covered with river stones, and the small lanes go in many directions. When the tourists leave, Porvoo feels quiet and calm, a place where you could really live.

During the day it is busy with visitors. I met a local artist who told me many artists live here. Maybe that is why the town has so many art shows and creative events. Would you like to join one of them?
I liked Porvoo so much that I decided to stay in a riverside guesthouse. It was a last-minute choice, but a wonderful one. At night, the town was even more magical than in the day. Have you ever stayed in such a place where night feels more beautiful than day?
