Finland, Thank You: What My Erasmus Experience Taught Me

Vol.28, Issue 13, 12th December 2025

As my Erasmus experience is ending, I finally have the time to look back at these last four months. And honestly, it feels almost impossible to describe everything I lived here. Finland has given me so much more than I expected. It was an incredible experience that changed me, taught me new things, and opened my mind in many ways.

Before coming here, I had some ideas about Finland, but now I understand the country much better. I learned about Finnish culture, silence, nature, and the calm rhythm of life. I also learned a lot about myself. Living alone, far away from my family and friends for months, was not always easy, but it made me stronger. I realised that I could handle things by myself, make decisions, organize my life, and grow as a person.

Erasmus also gave me the chance to meet people from many countries. We shared our cultures, food, languages, and stories. I feel lucky to have built friendships that I will remember for a long time. Traveling around Finland was another big part of this adventure. I discovered forests, lakes, cities, and snowy landscapes that I had only seen in photos before.

And this week, something amazing happened: I finally visited Lapland. It was a childhood dream, and it became real thanks to Erasmus. We saw reindeer walking quietly in the snow, we ice-skated on a frozen lake, and we visited the real Santa Claus Village. Everything felt magical, like being inside a winter fairy tale. I will never forget this moment.

Magnificent reindeer in Lapland !! A crazy experience

When I think about these five months, I only see positive things. No regrets, no negatives. Finland welcomed me with kindness and gave me memories that will stay with me forever. I arrived here with curiosity, and I am leaving with gratitude.

Finland, thank you for everything !
