International Week at Xamk
Vol 28, Issue 09, 14 November 2025
What if you could travel the world without leaving the campus?
That’s exactly what happens during International Week, you’ve probably heard about this big event at the university. It is one of the most important and colorful events of the year, taking place next week. During this event, students from around the world will share their cultures, traditions, foods, music, and stories.
Don’t think of it as just another university event; International Week is a celebration of diversity and friendship. Every dish, every piece of music, and every performance tells a story about that country, a story of where we come from and what we want to share with others. Many students dream of visiting different countries, experiencing their cultures, or tasting their foods. International Week offers a smaller, virtual view of these countries.
This free event is a chance for international students to proudly represent their countries and also get familiar with Finland, especially for new students. During the event, you might taste spicy Indian curry, Finnish salmon soup, or Iranian sweets, all in one afternoon, an experience that could be hard to repeat elsewhere. You may also hear conversations mixing different languages, making you feel like you are walking in a global village.
The point is, International Week is more than just colors and tastes; it shows that university life is not only about books, tasks, and tests, it is about people, experiences, and friendships. International Week presents an extraordinary view of daily life: simple things we often overlook suddenly become interesting. You see your friends’ traditional foods, learn about cultural customs, and even notice different reactions to the same situations. When all these elements come together, they create something truly special: a living mosaic of cultures.
Immigration is a challenging stage in an international student’s life, but this event feels like a bridge between the home country and a country you are living now. Sharing traditions helps us feel closer to home, while learning about others builds understanding and empathy. In a world that sometimes focuses too much on differences, International Week gently reminds us how much we actually share.
International Week is also a great opportunity for Finnish students to learn about other cultures and connect with international students. So whether you want to represent your home country, explore different cultures, or taste new foods, make sure to join this event and enjoy a day filled with a combination of cultures.
