Squid Game 2: The Game Intensifies and the Stakes Get Personal

Editors, Movies, Other, Reviews

Squid Game 2 is an all out race to the edge of a cliff where you are never sure if you’ll fall or be pushed and the first season was really great. The second season of Netflix’s wildly successful over many countries and series explores the nature of human greed, our ability to survive and some of strange choices which shape our characters. In this season 02 it’s not all about survival.  It is about humanity that the contestants either lose or retain in a desperate fight for survival.

Mainly Squid Game 2 grows on the catastrophic framework of the first game. We ended up wondering what we were going to do for survival and money in season one, but this season takes a different approach. What happens if surviving now involves not only you but also the people you left behind? We are thrown into a cruel new game that aims to take away not just life but also hope using both new and old characters.

New contestants of the game come with interesting backstories. As an example, a mother trying to save her sick child and a disgraced former Olympian whose fall from grace mirrors the game’s turned humor, Gi hun (who is the main character) returns, but this time he is not the frustrated man who we last saw. Instead of that now he is driven by revenge, regret, and targets to end the games. You will be caught between supporting them and fearing their unstoppable fates.

This season has even more complex and strange games with combine terror and emotion compared to last season. Also Squid Game 2 has an incredibly beautiful and disturbing visual aesthetic. However, what makes it unique is its storytelling. The games’ mysterious organization is expertly revealed by creator. We see more about the VIPs, the Front Man’s motives and even dark beginnings of these games

The conclusion? This is a series that brings you in deeper than just raising the stakes. Squid Game 2 makes us consider what we would give up to save others, if Season 1 made us consider up to what extent we would go to in order to survive. It is a must watch because it is exciting and thought provoking.
