Summer Tips

Vol 27, Issue 26, 25th April 2025
Summer break is a time we all look forward to. After months of studying, assignments, and cold weather, it’s finally the perfect opportunity to relax, recharge, and enjoy the beauty of the season. In Finland, summer is especially magical long days filled with sunshine, peaceful nature, and endless ways to spend time outdoors. But sometimes, summer can pass by quickly if we don’t plan how to use it wisely. Here are six simple tips to help you make the most out of your summer break!
1. Set Personal Goals
Before the summer begins, think about what you want to achieve. Whether it’s reading five books, learning a new skill, or saving money from a part-time job, having goals will give your summer purpose and structure.
2. Try Something New
Summer is the perfect time to explore things you’ve never done before. This could be learning to cook a new dish, picking up a hobby like painting or gardening, or trying something Finnish—like berry picking or going to a sauna by the lake.
3. Travel or Explore Locally
If you can travel, that’s great but if not, explore your own area. Finland offers incredible nature: forests, lakes, and national parks are everywhere. Even a short hike or picnic with friends can feel refreshing and memorable.
4. Stay Active and Healthy
Don’t forget to take care of your body and mind. Go for walks, swim in the lakes, bike through the countryside, or enjoy outdoor yoga. A healthy routine will keep your energy up and your mood balanced.
5. Volunteer or Work
Summer is a great time to get experience. Volunteering or doing a summer job can help you build skills, meet new people, and even earn some extra cash.
6. Take Time to Rest
Lastly, allow yourself to do absolutely nothing sometimes. Sleep in, enjoy long Finnish summer evenings, and let yourself just be present.
No matter where you are or what you do, summer is a chance to grow, recharge, and create memories that will last a lifetime.
