Zero-km medicine: How to pull the plug between Pescara and Finland

Exchange view, Insider, student story

Vol 28, Issue 20, 27th March 2026

Sunny day, exam or class over, perfect time for a stroll by the sea.

The sound of the waves and the chatter of people walking.

Completely another perspective, a river or lake totally silences you and the unspoiled nature.

There is a trend on social media “the sea where the heart rests and anxiety disappears”, here the sea is natural medicine.

For us students from Pescara, the sea is the natural medicine at zero kilometres.

The “want to go out” becomes a constant temptation when the beach is just a ten-minute walk from the classrooms. It’s a privilege that allows us to truly “detach” ourselves, moving from the codes of Law to a sunset aperitif in the space of a quarter of an hour.

Pescara,my university city in Italy is located on the sea, which is why we students have the opportunity to unplug by going for a walk by the sea, aperitif, eating pizza or ice cream,…

Eating a pizza with your friends on a rock while the sky turns pink feels like the beginning of a movie, yet it’s my university life in Pescara, Italy.

Taking the bike and taking a ride near the sea is rejuvenating.

Today I am in Finland, a country with more lakes in Europe, I have the opportunity to go to the river or the lake but it is not the same thing.

The river and lake offer total peace,a total immersion in pristine nature.

There are no Riviera bars in Finland, no coffee or pizza smell to accompany you on the way.

Two countries, two completely different habits, only one thing remains that unites these two realities: the feeling of unplugging alone or with friends in front of a natural mirror be it sea, river or lake is the same.
