Movie review: Ensilumi (Any day now)

A story of an Iran refugee family that is waiting for the decision whether they can have an official asylum status. The movie was a positive change, it wasn’t stereotypical nor was it in any way racist. You usually go see these kinds of movies and almost anticipate there to be a drunk person who is overly racist and shouting “Go back to where you came from” and I am very happy to tell you guys, that was not the case at all. I was happy to see how accepting people were and how they just lived in harmony with each other.

I read that the movie is based on the director’s own experiences and the male characters are based on the trauma he had to go through and struggles with still this day. The dad drinks too much, and the oldest child worries about the family’s future and of his best friend. The family really wants to settle down, they are tired of running and that shows. But will they get the asylum as they wish?

The movie itself was from the beginning a little sad but still hopeful. It touching and funny at times and the acting was good. I would give this movie a rating of 8/10
