This week saw the Nordic Business Forum 2026, drawing business leaders, entrepreneurs and decision-makers to Messukeskus in Helsinki for a two-day event centred on “The Human Edge”. Held on 16–17 September, the forum examined what human qualities still gave organisations a competitive advantage as artificial intelligence and fast-moving technologies reshaped working life.

The programme placed performance, decision-making and collaboration at the heart of the discussion. Rather than presenting technology as a rival to human leadership, the event framed it as a test of how well executives could pair digital tools with judgement, creativity and trust. Across the sessions, speakers returned to a familiar but urgent point: faster systems did not automatically produce wiser organisations and that the human was not only desirable but a necessity.

The main-stage line-up included Michael Beckley, Kjell A. Nordström, Shawn Kanungo, Rahaf Harfoush, Angela Duckworth, Steven Bartlett, Paul Polman, Alison Wood Brooks, Patty McCord, Nando Parrado, and Oprah Winfrey. Their appearances brought a broad mix of perspectives to the NBF stage, from resilience and culture to sustainability, digital behaviour and the pressures facing leaders in an era of constant change.

For Helsinki, the event again confirmed Nordic Business Forum’s role as one of Europe’s most visible gatherings for leadership and business strategy. The forum combined keynote speeches with networking, structured discussions and side events, drawing attention not only to headline speakers but also to the conversations taking place between participants outside the main hall.

Organisers also offered livestream options, roundtable discussions, meditation sessions and community-linked side events. Those additions gave the forum a wider reach and reinforced its central message: connection had become a business priority, not simply a conference slogan. Participants were encouraged to turn ideas from the stage into practical action once they returned to their organisations.

The emphasis on human advantage came as companies across sectors were challenged on using AI-driven systems for analysis, communication and decision-making. The forum’s underlying argument was clear: technology could accelerate work, but it could not replace accountability, empathy or discernment. Those qualities remained central to the way leaders build confidence inside organisations and credibility outside them.

Several speakers approached the theme through their own fields. Duckworth’s work on ‘grit’ highlighted persistence and the conditions that supported high performance. Polman linked leadership to long-term responsibility and collaboration. McCord’s experience at Netflix focused attention on team design and culture, while Harfoush examined how people thought and worked in digital environments shaped by speed and complexity.

Nando Parrado’s miraculous survivor story from his horrific Andes plane crash experience in 1972, emotionally moved the whole of the audience. His main message was one of love, friendship, and trust being that which enabled the survivors to come out of that tragic crash, and to go on and create life through families, children and grandchildren. He received an emotional standing ovation at the end of his talk.

The final presentation was by main keynote speaker, Oprah Winfrey. She recounted her life story and the struggles that shaped her and made her what she is today. Winfrey described how anything that happens, puts you on a path in life and you can either listen to your own intuition (internal gps she calls it), and grab it while you can, or miss your opportunities.

By the time the forum closed, its message had been sharpened into a practical challenge for leaders. The future of business would not be defined only by access to advanced tools, but by the ability to use them with purpose. In Helsinki, Nordic Business Forum 2026 argued that the next frontier of competitive advantage was not purely technological – It was human. Finally, the theme for NBF 2027 was revealed – ‘Clarity’. See you there?
