Let’s learn Finnish Together!

Goooood Morning, Everyone! I am sidetracking a little bit from my usual article topics and talking about how anyone can learn Finnish. This article is dedicated to especially my International friends and those students who want to learn more Finnish. This article mainly focuses on learning Finnish through chatting with friends and other people.

To start learning Finnish together, first step is to find people and friends to talk to. And that, that can be extremely hard. Everyone has their own life, and they can’t be at two places at the same time. Finding time to practice and learn Finnish with other people requires some effort, firstly on the time management and scheduling part. Even if someone finds a group or people to talk with, they can’t really find the time to talk to them.

And that is the reason why this technique comes into play. The technique involves sending a voice message in Finnish at free time, then the other person replies to it in their free time. Now, it is optional, but to add more, one could also write the Finnish words in text, so that the words unclear in the voice message can be easily understood. But, the first step is always to send and hear the voice message!

The group of people one talks to could be in-person or virtual. The virtual method could be done using apps in both smartphones and computers. The apps could be video conferencing apps like Zoom, Skype, Google Meet, Teams, etc… or Messaging apps like Messenger, Whatsapp, Telegram, etc… If there is no time to do a video call, then messaging apps are the best.

Other ways to learn Finnish can be using apps like Duolingo, or reading text in Finnish online. Also many other Youtube channels teach you a lot about the Finnish language as well! Personally, I think if there is no time for group calls, Youtube will be a great place to learn everything about Finnish and Finland as well!

Bonus: Youtube is a great place to learn not just the Finnish language, but also the Finnish culture.
