More Than an Erasmus: A Journey That Changed Me
Vol 28, Issue 24, 24th of April 2026
This is my last article.

It feels strange to write these words, because I still remember my first day in Finland. The snow, the cold, the silence, everything felt different, almost unreal. I felt like I had arrived in another world.
At the beginning, everything was new: a new culture, new people, a new way of living. Step by step, I started to discover this country, and I quickly realized how much I liked it. The calm, the respect, the connection with nature, and the balance in everyday life, all of this made me feel good.

I met amazing people during this experience. We shared so many moments together: trips, parties, simple evenings, and long conversations about everything and nothing. These moments created real connections, and they are now part of my best memories.

Of course, there were unforgettable highlights. Seeing the Aurora Borealis, traveling to different cities, discovering new places…

but in the end, what matters the most are the simple moments. Cooking together, laughing, going to class, enjoying the sun after winter, these small things became the most meaningful.

Academically, this experience also brought me a lot. At South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences, I discovered a different way of studying. Classes are more interactive, more practical, and closer to real life. Teachers are supportive, available, and really involved with students. It made learning more enjoyable and less stressful.

Over time, I adapted. I got used to the cold, to the rhythm of life, to the mentality. And without really noticing it, I changed too. I feel more open-minded, more independent, and more confident than before.

Now, the end of this journey is coming. It’s a strange feeling, because just when everything feels normal and comfortable, it’s already time to leave. I feel a bit sad, but also very grateful.
I leave Finland with memories, experiences, knowledge, but also with a real sense of happiness.

This was not just an Erasmus.
It was a chapter of my life that changed me.
Kiitos, i will be back !!
