Every year independent culture, design and lifestyle strengthen their positions. For many centuries, Warsaw suffered from foreign invaders and was destroyed; several times it had to be rebuilt. The Second World War turned out to be much more destructive and tragic than all the previous ones; at the end of the war, unable to stop the advance of the Red Army, Hitler ordered the planned destruction of the city, and almost all of Warsaw was literally razed to the ground. However, later the Old Town was carefully restored, although not exactly— according to old photographs, drawings and architectural drawings.

The building of the Stalin high-rise, which many call the “symbol of dependence” is located in the city center. This is a gift from the Soviet people for the people of Poland. By the way, there are only nine such high—rises – two are in Riga and Warsaw. Now it is the tallest building in Poland, which is among the top 10 tallest skyscrapers in Europe. An interesting fact: when a high—rise was built, the height of the building was determined “by eye” – an airplane flew over the city and architects and designers determined the height of the future building by the height of the aircraft.

The Vistula River divides the city in half. The center and the Old Town, the historical heart of Warsaw, are located on the western, left bank. Almost everything that can attract tourists, as well as all the institutions and institutions necessary for travelers, are located here. The reconstructed quarters are a real monument to people who refused to admit defeat, even though the city’s population has decreased by 2/3. Most of the buildings of the historical center date back to the 1950s, but in 1980 The Old City has been included by UNESCO in the World Heritage List of Mankind.

President Palace

Beyond the market square, cobblestone streets lead to cute little corners, quiet courtyards, and narrow alleys. Do not miss the area behind the cathedral, where you will find a beautiful small square (Canonia) and a terrace overlooking the Vistula. To the northwest of the Market Square on Podvale Street there is a monument to a Small rebel – a bronze figure of a boy with a machine gun in his hands and wearing a helmet too big for him. It is a symbol of children who, along with adults, fought against the Nazi occupiers during the Warsaw Uprising.

Everything is wonderful with the weather here, even in October. Warm and favorable for visiting the city. In the first days of October 2023, the air temperature reached +24 ° C, and in November it drops to +7 ° C. Poland is also considered one of the most budget-friendly European countries, fortunately, prices do not skyrocket in the capital of the country: a tourist with any wallet size can fully relax here.

And one of the positive aspects is that you can get to any place in different ways. There are buses, trains, even taxis. You can travel all over Poland by train and bus, and there are also direct flights to the Czech Republic, Germany and other countries, which will undoubtedly be an unforgettable journey.
