Summer Holiday in Stockholm, Sweden
Vol. 27, Issue 01, 13 September 2024
We decided to take a short trip to Stockholm, Sweden this summer. The flight was just a short hop across the Baltic Sea from Finland and within an hour we landed in Arlanda airport in Sweden. The excitement of discovering new sights, culture and history in one of Scandinavia’s most charming cities had us buzzing with anticipation. We planned our journey plan carefully to ensure we saw as much as possible as we just had three days to explore Stockholm.
As soon as we touched down at Stockholm Arlanda Airport, we were impressed by how modern and efficient everything was. A quick ride into the city center by train and bus only costed us 04 euros per person and we found ourselves buried in the vibrant streets of Stockholm. We decided to begin our journey by exploring Stockholm’s Old Town, also known as “Gamla Stan,”. We were immediately taken back in time by the colorful buildings and cobblestone streets. Every corner seemed to have a story to tell. We roamed around for hours, enjoying in the atmosphere and capturing plenty of photos. One of the main highlights was visiting Stortorget, the main square in Gamla Stan and we could not leave without seeing the Royal Palace (Kungliga Slottet) which is one of the largest palaces in Europe. We were amazed by the stunning design and detailed exterior of the royal palace.
We spent our second day visiting the museums in Stockholm to learn more about its rich cultural heritage. Our first stop was the well-known Vasa Museum. A large vessel from the 17th century that sank on its first trip. It was interesting to read about the ship’s history and how it was restored after spending more than 300 years underwater. The ship is almost completely preserved. Afte that we went to the Nordic Museum, which was a very amazing experience. The architecture of the museum itself was breathtaking with details that enhanced the feeling of history. It felt like stepping into the heart of Sweden’s rich cultural heritage. We made our way to Stockholm’s modern art museum “Moderna Museet” after briefly visiting the Viking Museum, Sprit Museum as well as the Abba Museum. After a full day of museum-hopping, we decided to take a ferry ride to one of the nearby islands in Stockholm. The surrounding area and views from the sea were breathtaking.
On our last day, we chose to do something a little more exciting and daring, so we went to Gröna Lund, the well-known theme park in Stockholm. Gröna Lund is one of Sweden’s oldest amusement parks located right by the Baltic Sea. We enjoyed the park’s atmosphere, spinning on wild rides, and riding roller coasters all day long. The Eclipse, a huge swing ride that lifted us above the park and provided us with amazing views of Stockholm, was one of our favourite rides. We could see the entire city and it was both thrilling and scenic at the same time. Visit to Gröna Lund was a great way to relax and have some fun after all the sightseeing we had done. The park’s lively and joyful energy made it a highlight of our trip.
By the end of our three-day vacation in Stockholm, we couldn’t help but feel happy of the experience. Despite our short trip, we had the chance to explore a lot and make wonderful memories. We were treated with a perfect combination of culture, history and entertainment in Stockholm, from the historic streets of Gamla Stan to the thrilling rides at Gröna Lund. We would highly recommend Stockholm to anyone looking for a satisfying vacation because it truly has something for everyone.
