IBSEN meeting May 2026 – Valenciennes, France
Vol 29, Issue 01, 11 September 2026
The International Business Studies Exchange Network (IBSEN) spring meeting took place at the Université Polytechnique Hauts-de-France (UPHF) in Valenciennes, France, reinforcing the network’s commitment to international cooperation, academic excellence, and student mobility. The visit provided an opportunity for partner institutions to exchange ideas, explore new collaborative initiatives, and gain a deeper understanding of educational trends, environments and internationalisation.

Located in the Hauts-de-France region of northern France, UPHF is a well-established public university with a strong reputation for teaching, applied research, and international engagement. Originally founded in 1964, the university has evolved into a dynamic higher education cluster comprising several educational institutions, institutes, and research laboratories. Today, UPHF serves approximately 11,000 students and employs around 1,300 staff members across a broad range of disciplines.

During the visit, IBSEN representatives were introduced to the university’s diverse academic offerings, which include more than 100 study programmes. Particular attention was given to business and management education through the IAE School of Management, a member of the prestigious IAE France network of Schools of Management. The discussions highlighted shared interests in developing international learning opportunities, enhancing student exchange programmes, and fostering innovative teaching approaches that prepare graduates for an increasingly global business environment.

Beyond academic discussions, the visit offered valuable cultural insights into Valenciennes, a city often referred to as the “Athens of the North” because of its rich artistic and intellectual heritage. The city combines historical significance with excellent transport connections, making it an attractive destination for both domestic and international students. Valenciennes’ proximity to Lille, Paris, and several international transport hubs further enhances its appeal as a centre for international education and cooperation.

The IBSEN visit to UPHF demonstrated the importance of sustained international partnerships in higher education. By bringing together educators, administrators, and internationalisation experts, the visit strengthened existing relationships and created opportunities for future collaboration. Such exchanges continue to play a vital role in expanding global perspectives, enriching student experiences, and supporting the development of a truly international academic community.
The next IBSEN meeting will take place at Hallym University, Chuncheon, Gangwon, Republic of Korea, in November 2026.
