Turkey is so multifaceted, bright and unique country. At various times it was under the rule of the Hittite kingdom, Phrygia, Troy, Ancient Rome, Byzantium, Seljuk Sultanate. Later these territories were transformed into the Ottoman Empire. And only about a hundred years ago, the Republic of Turkey was proclaimed, the first president of which was Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. He abolished the sultanate, separated religion from the state, balanced the rights of men and women, and also set a vector for the secular course of development of the state. At the moment, a huge number of different nationalities live — from Kurds and Circassians to Arabs, Tatars, Greeks and Albanians, and of course Turks.

The traditional Turkish symbolism and the pride of the Turks is the national flag. During national holidays, red banners with a white crescent and a star fly not only on the facades of state institutions, but literally in every window and on the balcony in all cities and towns of the country. Today, the crescent and the star are closely associated with the religion of Islam. But according to historians, these symbols existed long before the Prophet Muhammad.

Now let’s discuss the Turkish people. The Turks are a very open people, this can be seen already at the first meeting with them. An official conversation with them quickly turns into a friendly one, and if they like you, they will do everything so that after meeting you, you will have only pleasant impressions. Homeless cats and dogs are treated with love in the country. This is evidenced by the large number of drinkers and feeders on the streets and in parks. Food is constantly being added, water is being changed. There are also special vending machines that water and feed animals in exchange for plastic bottles.

Interesting facts:

  • There are special rules of etiquette in Turkey. A man should not sit next to a woman on buses, dolmushas (local minibuses), theater, especially if there are empty seats around. Women should also sit only with members of their own gender.
  • Turkish men are very risky, get involved in questionable activities, love gambling.
  • Turkish babies are rocked on their feet, not on their hands, which is convenient since the hands remain free and do not hurt after the baby falls asleep.
  • Often, relatives settle not far from each other in order to be able to get together regularly, provide the necessary assistance, support.

Hospitality is one of the important characteristics of this people. To refuse an invitation to visit is considered indecent. Coming to the Turkish house, guests take off their shoes right at the doorstep. Everyone will be given a change of shoes. It should be expected that the shortest guest visit in Turkey often has a duration of two to three hours. If the conversation dragged on, you will definitely be offered to spend the night.

In conclusion, Turkey offers a unique combination of ancient and modern culture. Its historical heritage and modern achievements make this country unique and exciting to explore. So, welcome to Turkey!
