Studying at Xamk – My experience as a new student

Before coming to Finland, I’m certain that most of the students have encountered various stereotypes about Finnish universities which influenced their expectations and understanding of the educational experience in Finland. University education is often seen as the gateway to a successful career. However, for many students, their university experience is filled with frustration and boredom.
There are many reasons why university education can be so boring. One reason is that many professors use outdated teaching methods that do not engage students. For example, many professors rely on lectures, which can be very dry and monotonous. Additionally, there is often a lack of interaction between students and professors, which can make learning feel impersonal and uninspiring.

Another reason for the boredom is that many university courses are irrelevant to students’ interests and career goals. Many students feel like they are being forced to take courses that have no bearing on their lives. This can make them feel disengaged from their studies and can lead to a lack of motivation. The boredom of university education can have several negative consequences for students. It can lead to lower grades, a higher dropout rate, and a decline in mental health. It can also make students less likely to pursue a career in their field of study.
