One-day trip to Lappeenranta
Lappeenranta is a small town in a southestern Finland, which is located near Saimaa lake. It’s not the biggest and the most interesting place to visit in Finland but good alternative for a one-day trip, if you are exhausted of Kuovola or just wanted to feel on the road. Train tikets with the student discount were only 14 euros and time in train was less then an hour. It was a sunny day, so I felt in love with the view from the window. Small houses, forest with big spruces and firs, which were slightly dusted with snow. Amazing. First thing, that has surprised me, was architecture and structure of the city. It looks more like a small European village with tiny city center, nice embankment and old houses. I was feeling like people there are just enjoying their life and are completely satisfied with everything. What I liked most, was the atmosphere in the evening, because of Christmas decorations in the centre and in private sector. If you are interested in travelling to Lappeenranta, I would recommend to take warm clothes on and get ready for an outdoor day. The best plan is to visit the fortress staright after arriving to the train station (walk to it trough the city center and old town hall), then go to the pier and turn right. You can enjoy walking on the embankment along the whole city, which would be up on the hill. Your finally destination will be a lake. There should be funny ducks, so you can take some food to feed them. After a long walk nothing is better than turning back to the city center and having a dinner in a local cafe. Best time to turn back is after 5-6 hours from arrival, of course if you don’t have there any friends or important affairs. One-day trip is always a good decision for those, who are tired of routine and urgently needed new emotions.
